Tyler Pow
Drums, Electric Bass, Guitar, Piano
Growing up with a dad who was a recording engineer, Tyler says music was always
part of his life. Around age thirteen, just as he was discovering his passion for underground rock, punk
and indie, he began songwriting and playing in bands with classmates. He played drums and guitar at
church for over ten years. He studied commercial music and jazz at the University of North Carolina at
Pembroke and then transferred to Methodist University, where he trained in classical performance. Tyler
started teaching when he was in college and has continued taking on students for the past six years. While
honing his craft on his principle instrument, Tyler also worked at developing his ability as a guitarist,
bassist, pianist, and a singer. Though a rocker at heart, Tyler’s diverse resume reveals much about his
many musical interests. Over the past few years, he’s formed and/or played in many different types of
musical settings including cover bands, backing singer/songwriters, jazz combos, original bands,
composing for theatre, and doing session work.
